Bishops’ Conference Statement on the final IICSA Report

20 November 2020.
Dear Fathers, Dear Deacons,

I am attaching the Bishops’ Conference Statement on the final IICSA Report into the Catholic Church together with the bishops’ acceptance of the independent Elliot Report’s recommendations which lay out the changes to safeguarding structures and procedures within the Church which are necessary to ensure best practice.  I am also attaching Cardinal Vincent’s personal message from today’s press conference. Please do share these statements with your parish communities by whatever means are open to you.  The simplest way is to refer parishioners to the diocesan website:
I would be very grateful if you could include the following message from myself to parishioners in your communication.  This can also be found on the website.

I want to assure you of my gratitude for all that you do in your ministry to care with generosity and devotion to the needs of others in the name of Our Lord.  Thank you for your prayers for all those who have suffered abuse, within and beyond the Church, as well as for Cardinal Vincent and the bishops during the last few days.

With my prayers and every kind wish.

Yours devotedly in Christ,
Archbishop Bernard Longley
